Spring break was last week and my mom flew up for the week and it was awesome!  I think I served her about 4 garlic loaded meals before she said garlic wasn’t really her favourite! Oops!

I made these toasted baguette crisps and an amazing garlicy spread to go with it!! (Sorry Mom) I’ll post that recipe next week:-) ps. it was amazing!

The baguette crisps work amazing, it’s like using a shovel to get the dip into your mouth! Haha.  If that dip contains any cheese then its a match made in heaven and you have to try the cheese appetizers below!

These crisps were amazing with these appetizers:

Camembert Maple Puff Pastry

Hot baked brie wrapped in flaky puff pastry

Baked Brie with Fig Spread

There are lots of different ways to flavour the baguette bread because its nice to pair them with what your serving!  First make sure to use a high quality olive oil.  Extra Virgin Olive oil is more pure and the taste will tell.  Lower quality oils taste very much like oil.(but not in a good way!)  High quality has much more flavour so definitely splurge on a good bottle!  I’m lucky enough to have a source to get olive oil shipped right from their fields across seas.  (I’m officially ruined from store bought for life!)

Toasted Baguette Crisp Flavours

  • Brush olive oil on the bread then rub a raw clove of garlic over top!
  • Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over before baking.
  • Sprinkle with salt and pepper
  • Sprinkle fresh chopped thyme or rosemary for a wonderful light taste.
  • Seasoning Salt gives a great taste as well!

Use a white baguette loaf that is starting to go stale.  They are much easier to cut when a bit more fresh so they don’t crumble.  I have a electric slicer so I set the width to 1/4″ thick.  Slice the whole loaf to get uniform width “chips”.  Brush both sides of the bread with Olive oil and bake at 400 for 3-5 minutes until edges are turning golden brown.  Serve immediately with your favorite dips and spreads or store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
